Calverton, NY 11933Employment Type: Full-Time, ExemptPosition SummaryThe HR Partner serves as a strategic and operational leader, responsible for aligning human capital initiatives with the school’s mission and financial goals. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is a "department of one" or a lead role that manages the entire employee lifecycle—from high-level organizational strategy and compliance to day-to-day talent acquisition and benefits administration.The ideal candidate possesses the executive presence of a senior leader and the hands-on capability to execute HR functions within a fast-paced, mission-driven educational environment.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & ComplianceExecutive Partnership: Collaborate with the CFO and School Leadership Team to develop staffing models, compensation structures, and retention strategies that align with the annual budget.Policy Oversight: Maintain and update the Employee Handbook; ensure strict adherence to federal, state, and local labor laws, as well as Department of Education (DOE) requirements.Risk Management: Lead employee relations investigations, performance management cycles, and conflict resolution processes to minimize organizational risk.Talent Acquisition & OnboardingFull-Cycle Recruitment: Manage the end-to-end hiring process for instructional and operations staff, including sourcing, vetting, and interviewing.Credentialing: Ensure all instructional staff meet state certification and background check requirements (e.g., Fingerprinting, TEACH account status).Orientation: Design and facilitate a comprehensive onboarding experience that integrates new hires into the school’s culture and operational norms.Total Rewards & OperationsBenefits Administration: Manage open enrollment, COBRA, and FMLA/LOA requests. Act as the primary point of contact for insurance brokers.Payroll Liaison: Partner with the finance department to ensure accurate data entry for payroll processing, including deductions, stipends, and salary increases.Data Management: Maintain the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to ensure 100% data integrity for reporting and auditing.Required QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (Master’s preferred).Certification: SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR certification is highly preferred.Experience: * Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive HR experience.Experience in a Charter School or Non-Profit environment is a significant plus.Demonstrated experience operating at a mid-to-high executive level, including strategic planning and budget management.Technical & Soft SkillsExecutive Functioning: Ability to self-manage, prioritize complex projects, and pivot between high-level strategy and granular administrative tasks.Confidentiality: Exceptional judgment and discretion regarding sensitive personnel and financial information.Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust with both hourly staff and executive leadership.Work EnvironmentCharter schools are high-energy environments. The HR Partner must be comfortable working on-site, engaging with staff during the school day, and occasionally attending board meetings or school events outside of standard business hours.
