We are committed to developing the whole child, including their social-emotional well-being.Job Summary:Riverhead Charter School is seeking a compassionate and experienced Elementary School Mindful Practitioner Teacher to guide our young students in developing essential social-emotional learning (SEL) skills through mindfulness practices. This innovative role will focus on teaching students in grades K-5 techniques to manage emotions, reduce stress, improve focus, and cultivate compassion, contributing to a positive and supportive school climate.Responsibilities:Develop and implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate mindfulness curriculum for elementary school students (Grades K-5).Teach a variety of mindfulness techniques, including mindful breathing, body scans, mindful movement (e.g., gentle yoga, mindful walking), and guided visualization.Introduce concepts of emotional regulation, self-awareness, empathy, and gratitude through engaging and accessible activities.Create a calm, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages self-exploration and emotional safety.Integrate mindfulness practices into daily school routines, working collaboratively with classroom teachers to support their implementation.Utilize stories, games, art, and other creative methods to make mindfulness practices relatable and enjoyable for young children.Observe student needs and adapt mindfulness strategies to support individual and group social-emotional development.Provide tools and strategies that students can use independently to manage stress, improve focus, and resolve conflicts.Communicate effectively with parents/guardians about the benefits of mindfulness and provide resources for home practice.Collaborate with school counselors, classroom teachers, and administration to support student well-being and a positive school culture.Stay current with best practices in mindfulness education, social-emotional learning (SEL), and child development.Potentially lead mindfulness workshops or sessions for staff and parents.Uphold the school's mission and values in all interactions with students, families, and colleagues.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field (required).New York State teaching certification (preferred, but candidates with strong mindfulness training and a commitment to obtaining certification will be considered).Formal training and certification in a recognized mindfulness-based program (e.g., Mindful Schools, Inner Explorer, Mindful Life, or similar) (required).Demonstrated experience teaching mindfulness to elementary-aged children.Strong understanding of child development and social-emotional learning principles.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.Ability to model mindful presence, compassion, and resilience.Creativity, patience, and a genuine passion for fostering children's emotional well-being.Benefits:Competitive salary and benefits package.Opportunity to be a pioneer in integrating mindfulness into elementary education.A supportive, holistic, and forward-thinking school environment.Opportunities for professional development in mindfulness and SEL.The chance to make a profound positive impact on the lives of young learners.To Apply:Please apply on OLAS and send a cover letter, resume, and copies of any relevant certifications or mindfulness training credentials to jobs@rcsli.org.
