Riverhead Charter SchoolPosition Summary:Riverhead Charter School is seeking a dedicated and passionate High School Spanish Teacher to join our dynamic and growing team. The ideal candidate will have a deep knowledge of the Spanish language, an understanding of pedagogical best practices, and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. The High School Spanish Teacher will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging Spanish language instruction to students in grades 9-12, helping them to develop fluency, cultural competency, and a lifelong appreciation for the Spanish-speaking world.Key Responsibilities:Curriculum & Instruction:Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and effective Spanish language lessons that align with New York State learning standards and Riverhead Charter School’s curriculum goals.Design and implement a variety of instructional strategies and materials to accommodate different learning styles and abilities.Develop students' proficiency in all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.Incorporate authentic cultural materials and resources to provide students with a deeper understanding of Hispanic cultures.Assessment & Evaluation:Create and administer a variety of assessments (quizzes, tests, projects, oral presentations, etc.) to evaluate student progress and mastery of learning objectives.Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their language development.Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student grades, attendance, and progress.Classroom Management:Establish and maintain a positive, respectful, and safe classroom environment that encourages student participation and a love for learning.Enforce school-wide rules and procedures consistently and fairly.Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues regarding student behavior and academic performance.Collaboration & Professional Development:Collaborate with other teachers and staff to develop interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.Participate in professional development opportunities, faculty meetings, and school events.Maintain open and consistent communication with parents/guardians about student progress and classroom activities.Other Duties:Actively participate in the school community beyond the classroom, which may include supervising extracurricular activities, student clubs (e.g., Spanish Club), or other school functions.Stay current with best practices in foreign language education and educational technology.Qualifications:Required:Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field.New York State Teaching Certification in Spanish (grades 7-12 or a similar certification).Native or near-native fluency in Spanish (both written and spoken).Experience teaching high school students is preferred.Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered approach to teaching.Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.Proficiency in educational technology and a willingness to integrate it into instruction.Preferred:Master’s degree in Spanish, Education, or a related field.Experience working in a charter school or urban education setting.Riverhead Charter School is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
