The Children’s Center, located in Commack, has provided over 60 years of excellence in educational services including preschool, school-age programs and early intervention services tailored to meet the physical, cognitive and emotional needs of children with disabilities from birth to 21 years of age.Essential Duties and Responsibilities of our Assistant PrincipalSupervise day-to-day operations in the absence of the Director of Educational Services/Principal.Maintains ongoing contact with all education program families, addresses complaints and resolves problems.Responsible for outreach to community, maintains liaison with school districts, CPSE’s, CSE’s, Suffolk County, libraries, child care/nursery schools, medical community, community organizations (parent groups), and local businesses.Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring or terminating teacher and teacher aides.Develops and monitors parent satisfaction surveys, staff surveys and program evaluationsSubmits quarterly reports, including Strategic Planning for the education program.Assists in program budgeting and allocations.Actively participates on various agency and building committees. (i.e., CRP Committee, Incident Review Committee, Health and Safety, etc.) and represents UCP at IFSP, CPSE and CSE meetings.Attends team meetings and coordinates parent conferences/workshops.Coordinates Parent Group meetings Supervises all Special Education Teachers, Teacher Aides, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, and Adaptive Physical Education Teacher in the Education Program.Coordinates staff development, trainings, orientations and staff meetings for the Education Program.Participate in the development and evaluation of educational programs and services.Help plan daily school activities, participates in the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.Complies with federal, state and county laws, Agency & Program Policies and Procedures and licensure requirements (including: safety inspections, safety-drills etc.).Promotes the use of technology in teaching/learning process for both students and staff.Assists Director of Educational Services/Principal develop, maintain, and use information systems to track progress on performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.Ensure that students are adequately supervised during instructional and non-instructional times.Support ongoing implementation of the current curriculumParticipates in “self” professional growth to improve skills related to job assignment.Ongoing staff development and training in coordination with Education administration in preparing staff to work collaboratively, share expertise, support a range of abilities and disabilities, accommodate a variety of learning styles, and more effectively meet the needs of all studentsReviews report cards and ensures accurate and timely completion.
