The Pinnacle School Job Posting: Computer Science and Technology TeacherThe Pinnacle School, private special education day schools for students in grades 2 through 12, seek a full-time Computer Science and Technology Teacher. The Pinnacle School enables students with complex learning profiles and secondary co-occurring needs to thrive through small class sizes, differentiated instruction, active problem-solving and relationship building. The school is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is a Connecticut state-approved special education school. Our students are both privately and district placed, and come from Connecticut and New York. Candidates will be joining a robust and collaborative team of highly trained clinicians and teachers with expertise in special education, school counseling, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and classroom and behavior management. We hire accomplished, inspiring people with a combination of teaching experience, advanced degrees, contagious enthusiasm, and engaging communication skills.The Computer Science and Technology Teacher will provide high quality, data-driven instruction in computer programming, robotics, and other computer technology to students aligned with the school’s mission and philosophy. The Computer Science and Technology teacher will teach computer science classes focusing on computational thinking, coding, physical computing and other skills in alignment with the Computer Science Teachers Association curricular standards and provide opportunities for students to develop engineering, teamwork and problem-solving skills. Teachers will differentiate the curriculum to support students’ learning styles and current achievement levels. Teachers will cultivate open and positive lines of communication with students and parents regarding academic, social and emotional progress and development, as well as maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues.The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:Ability to teach Computer Programming and other areas of computer technology Experience incorporating 3D printing into curriculum desirableExperience with EV3 or VEX robotics desirableBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Math or Science; Master’s degree preferredValid Connecticut state teaching certification (endorsement 047 - Technology Education, PK–12 preferred). Other grade level certification permitting computer instruction may also be accepted. If the successful candidate does not hold 047 certification, the candidate may be required to pursue the certification following hire.Ability to collaborate with Leadership and faculty to continually review and develop of the computer science and technology scope and sequencePlan and implement high-quality, engaging, hands-on lessons that are differentiated to meet the learning needs of the students and that include computer science, coding, digital citizenship, and hands-on computer engineering-related projects.Collaborate to design and implement student and parent digital citizenship standards and programs;Experience working with students with language-based learning differencesCommitment to helping children of all abilities reach their full potentialExcellent written and verbal communication skills, and a collaborative, enthusiastic style to fit with our team environment.
