SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER- TEMP ROLE Objectives: Team Collaboration Problem-Solving Community Building Teaching/Learning Enhancement Support Duties and Responsibilities: Reports to the Director of Education Observations/Interactions Within the Milieu • Proactive, ongoing daily clinical/educational observation of students and the teaching/learning process; Observe and monitor classes. • Proactive collaboration with educators and administrators to maintain educational progress, appropriate instructional approaches and classroom management of individual students and groups of students. • Actively support educators in teaching/learning process and classroom management • On-going setting limits and follow-through; Interventions as assessed and needed • Maintain and support the structure of the program • Maintain and support the program approach • Participate and collaborate in teacher training/professional development • Collaborate with the Director of Education in developing tracking of goals and objectives when necessary • Actively participate in all community activities including unstructured time, recreation, lunch, special events • Recommend, collaborate and implement community enhancement activities within the structure and philosophy of the program Counseling Individual and/or group counseling as needed and/or assigned • Collaborative problem-solving with students (immediate and on-going) • Teach the Community Seminar • Maintain individual/group counseling within the educational therapy framework; Report outside of framework issues to Director of Education • Seek seamless integration of counseling process with educator’s work with students • Collaborate with families and outside providers to support school functioning needs Evaluations • Review existing psychological/educational evaluations of individual students at the time of enrollment • Create learning/behavioral profile based on evaluations and clinical observation • Recommend further evaluations and/or clinical observations • Student data collection IEP Process • Review IEP social/emotional goals and objectives of students; Consult with teachers re: appropriateness of academic goals/objectives • Recommend IEP changes to goals and objectives • Collaborate with Director of Education and educators to write appropriate PLOP pages, SOPs and goals/objectives • Recommend transition goals, objectives and services including outside adult service providers. Reporting • Reports as necessary for internal and/or external requirements • Daily report to the Director of Education • Prepare Community Seminar student progress reports • When necessary, file reports to DCF in accordance with the mandatory reporting requirements of the Program • Report classroom/out-of-classroom clinical/educational observations to the Director of Education Meetings • Active participation in staff team meetings • Participation in PPT meetings • Participation in family meetings Planning/Programming in Collaboration with Team • Executive functioning skill development • Social skills • Individual/group behavior improvement • Community enhancements • Develop, collaborate with team, and implement each student’s transition process into their Goals/Objectives and individual or group activities Professional Development • Understand the Woodhouse Academy Philosophy, Knowledge Base, and Techniques Used: ? Landmark College Strategies? • Assistive technology and other approaches to enhance teaching/learning process • Professional development collaboration with Director of Education • Continues own professional development through attendance at conferences and training programs Miscellaneous • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Education Collaborative Responsibilities: • In collaboration with the Director of Education: ? Establishes and maintains effective communication with parents, school districts and outside mental health providers ? Develops and communicates the learning profiles and learning problems of students ? Ensures program has diagnostic and evaluation information on academic levels and learning styles of students and that this information is communicated to teachers ? Regularly communicates with and meets with parents/guardians to discuss student progress and/or special issues ? Explores, designs, coordinates and/or implements professional development and training activities for educators ? Oversees and monitors the clinical and therapeutic program components ? Provides ongoing review and modification of the therapeutic process and individual student therapeutic benefit. ? Collaborate with Director of Education to develop and monitor IEP transition goals and objectives. • In collaboration with The Director of Education and the Consulting Psychiatrist: ? Ensures the seamless educational/therapeutic program integration and individual student issues and progress. ? Develops liaison with outside mental health providers ? Communicates with parents/guardians regarding individual student issues In coordination with the Director of Education and the School Nurse: ? Administer medication according to Academy policy and procedures Position Specifications: • Minimum of a Master’s degree in School Social Work • Certification in School Social Work (071) • One or more years as a practicing School Social Worker or comparable experience • Demonstrates excellent organizational, communication, follow-up and leadership skills Position Requirements • 40 hours per week Please apply on OLAS and send your resume to Laurie.DiPreta@newstory.com
