We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Teacher Assistant to support instruction in our Heavy Equipment Technology program. Ideal candidates are professionals with a mechanical background who are eager to share their knowledge and contribute to an engaging, hands-on learning environment.Position Overview:The Teacher Assistant will work under the direction of the CTE Heavy Equipment Instructor to assist in delivering instruction aligned with the approved New York State curriculum. This role involves helping high school students develop both general and specific skills in heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and safety. The successful candidate will demonstrate patience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to support the development of students’ technical and employability skills in a dynamic classroom setting.Responsibilities Include:• Support the instructor in delivering engaging, industry-aligned lessons and demonstrations.• Assist students in the acquisition of hands-on skills related to heavy equipment operation and maintenance.• Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom.• Monitor and assist students with projects and practical assessments, including National Industry Standard skill evaluations.• Support the creation and maintenance of lesson materials, classroom organization, and student records.• Work effectively with students of diverse learning needs, demonstrating patience and flexibility.• Provide individual or small group support under the direction of the instructor.• Participate as a collaborative member of the CTE instructional team.• Utilize basic computer skills to assist with student tracking, documentation, and instructional support.QUALIFICATIONS: New York State Teaching Assistant Certificate Level 1, 2, 3 or Pre-Professional required. The setting is working with high school aged students in both the classroom and lab setting.Preferred Qualifications:• Mechanical background or experience in heavy equipment operation, maintenance, or related industry.• Experience working with teens or in an educational setting.• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.• Ability to multitask, stay organized, and support a positive learning environment.• Team-oriented mindset with a passion for career-focused education.• Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, etc.)• Willingness to obtain a CDL to transport students in mini-van in Career and Technical Education at TSTFor further information regarding Teaching Assistant Certification Levels visit http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/ta.html.START DATE: September 2 , 2025SALARY: $30,510 (2025-26 full-time base salary for Teaching Assistant Level I, additional $1,000 base salary for Level II, III or Pre-professional), plus additional salary credit for relevant experience and/or Education.
