POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of Student and Family Engagement (SAFE) Director, the position will be responsible for providing administrative support to meet the needs of the SAFE Division. Listen to, understand, and translate spoken or written statements from one language to another. Reproduce statements in another language for unique listening or reading audience. PRIMARY DUTIES:Provide simultaneous interpretation to/from English and Spanish for small and large group meetings of varying complexity and subject matter.Translate written correspondence of varying complexity and subject matter to/from English and Spanish using computer assisted translation and word processing tools.Maintain and expand translation memory and term base to ensure consistent translation of school related documents.Carry out phone and/or email contacts with students’ families for various events, such as class trips, parent meetings, etc.Serve as cultural liaison and linguistic resource to Lexington personnel and families.Interpret for meetings, assemblies and special events (for children and adults) on an as needed basis.Interpret for clients and clinicians in mental health and medical settings in the school, on an as needed basis.Use computerized databases to retrieve data and generate reports.Provide emergency interpreting institution wide.Perform other duties as assigned. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Excellent interpersonal and communication skillsExpert ability to render written and oral translation to/from Spanish and English of topics of varying complexity and subject matter.Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook and computer-assisted translation software, such as Memo Q or Trados.Knowledge of Sign Language or commitment to learn EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Regents or Local High School Diploma, or GED required. Bachelors Degree preferredThree to five years’ experience in a similar role. SECURITY CLEARANCE:Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computerProlonged periods of walking in and around the buildingMust be able to lift 15 pounds at timesApply on OLAS
