The Pinnacle School, a private, special education day school for students in grades 2 through 12, seeks a High School Science Teacher for a full-time, school based position (10 months).The Pinnacle School enables students with complex learning profiles and secondaryco-occurring needs to thrive through small class sizes, differentiated instruction, activeproblem-solving and relationship building. The school is accredited by the New EnglandAssociation of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is a Connecticut state-approved specialeducation school. Our students are both privately and district placed, and come fromConnecticut and New York.Candidates will be joining a robust and collaborative team of highly trained clinicians andteachers with expertise in special education, school counseling, speech and language therapy,occupational therapy, and classroom and behavior management. The Science teacher will use a variety ofapproaches to problem-solving, including inquiry-based methods and modeling practicalapplications. The Science Teacher will plan and implement high-quality, engaging mathematicslessons that differentiate curriculum to support students’ learning styles and currentachievement levels. Teachers will cultivate open and positive lines of communication withstudents and parents regarding academic, social and emotional progress and development, aswell as maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues.The successful candidate will meet the following requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or Science; Master’s degree preferred Valid Connecticut state endorsement 165-Special Education: Comprehensive, gradesK-12, 030 Biology, 7–12, 031 Chemistry, 7–12, 032 Physics, 7–12, 033 Earth Science,7–12, 034 General Science, 7–12 or eligible for certification in the state of Connecticut. Minimum 3 years experience within a school-setting, with special education studentpopulations with language-based learning differences Familiar with the IEP process and the collection of progress monitoring data Create and maintain an orderly and aesthetic learning environment that accounts forstudents' social, emotional, and executive functioning needs Commitment to helping children of all abilities reach their full potential Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, enthusiastic styleto fit with our small-team environment.Qualities of a Successful Candidate: Flexible and Patient - is able to react quickly and seamlessly to changes, is able to alterplans both instructionally and clinically based on observations and data Creative - is creative when planning engaging lessons and thinking outside the box tocreate the best individualized intervention for a student.
