Position: High School Environmental/Life Science Special Education Teacher Location: East Ramapo Central School District, Rockland County, NY Type: Full-Time, Tenure-Track Start Date: September 2025Application Deadline: Open until filledPosition Overview:The Environmental/Life Science Special Education Teacher will create and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction in life and environmental sciences to high school students with IEPs. The successful candidate will adapt curriculum, collaborate with faculty and families, and assess student progress, ensuring students with special needs access the general education science curriculum with appropriate modifications and supports.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and deliver lessons in Environmental and Life Sciences aligned with NY State standards and IEP goalsDifferentiate instruction and provide accommodations, modifications, and specialized strategiesCollaborate with general education science teachers, related services staff, and school leadersAdminister and interpret assessments; monitor student progress and maintain data/tracking systemsWrite, update, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)Communicate regularly with parents/guardians, host IEP meetings, and support transitionsParticipate in supervision, parent-teacher conferences, and professional developmentMaintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environmentRequired QualificationsNYS Certification in:Students with Disabilities (7–12)Environmental Science (7–12) or Biology (7–12)Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred)Experience teaching science to students with disabilities at the secondary levelStrong knowledge of life and environmental science topics (e.g., ecology, genetics, physiology), instructional strategies, behavior management, and assistive technologyExcellent collaboration and communication skills Preferred QualificationsExperience with co-teaching modelsFamiliarity with UDL and PBIS frameworksExperience adapting content for diverse learners and multi-lingual populationsWillingness to lead extracurricular science or environmental initiativesSalary and BenefitsSalary is commensurate with ExperienceBenefits: Medical, Dental and VisionApplication ProcessPlease submit a resume and cover letter via OLAS: www.olasjobs.orgEast Ramapo Central School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer and celebrates diversity and inclusion in all hiring practices.
