Job Title: Superintendent’s Suspension Hearing Officer.Location: Central OfficeEmployment Type: Per DiemDays and Hours: As needed, between 1 and 3 hearings per weekAnticipated Start Date: November, 2024 Compensation: $350 per hearingPosition Summary: The East Ramapo Central School District is in search of an experienced professional to preside over district-level student suspension hearings with integrity and a commitment to due process. As a Designated Superintendent Suspension Hearing Officer, the ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that all parties involved are heard and that decisions are made in accordance with district policies, our Code of Conduct, and state regulations and education law, in particular New York State Education Law § 3214.Key responsibilities include:Conducting suspension hearings in a neutral and impartial mannerReviewing evidence, statements, and documentation related to the case.Providing a fair opportunity for the student and parents/guardians and the school representatives to present their respective sidesMaking informed decisions and recommendations based on the facts presented and relevant policiesCommunicating decisions effectively and respectfully to all parties involvedKeeping clear notes and drafting summary post-hearing letters Qualifications:Knowledge of education laws and regulations, especially New York State Education Law § 3214Minimum of 5 years as a school or school district administratorStrong communication and conflict-resolution skillsAbility to maintain confidentiality and professionalismExcellent writing skillsExperience in conducting administrative hearings or related legal proceedings
