The Director of Foundational Literacy & MTSS will play a pivotal role in overseeing and enhancing the educational programs and initiatives in the West Islip Union Free School District. This leadership position is responsible for driving educational excellence, fostering a supportive and innovative learning environment, and ensuring the academic success and well-being of all students utilizing a multi-tiered system of supports.Certification: SDL RequiredKey ResponsibilitiesDevelop and execute a clear vision and strategic plan for the district’s elementary literacy program that aligns with the organization's overall educational objectives.Collaborate with district educators to inspire a culture of literacy, rooted in continuous improvement and innovation.Oversee implementation of the MTSS framework (K-12) to support all students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. Lead instructional efforts at the elementary level focused on acquisition of the essential skills and knowledge needed for reading and writing, including phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Oversee the design, development, implementation and review of curriculum and instructional programs for elementary schools.Ensure curriculum alignment with state and national standards, as well as best practices in elementary education.Support assessment strategies to measure student achievement and growth.Analyze achievement data to identify areas for improvement and develop data-driven initiatives to enhance student outcomes.Develop and oversee professional development programs for staff members to promote their growth and positive impact.Encourage the adoption of best teaching practices and the integration of technology in the classroom.Foster positive relationships with parents and the local community to enhance support for literacy programs.Work to create a safe and inclusive learning environment that supports the social, emotional, and academic needs of all students.Identify intervention strategies to support students not meeting grade level academic expectations and/or growth targets.
