The West Islip UFSD is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and student-centered counselor to join our counseling department. Responsibilities and characteristics of the successful candidate include, but are not limited to, the following:Supports and attends student activities and eventsStrong communication skillsExperience implementing programs aligned with NYS and ASCA StandardsKnowledge of the MTSS process and interventionsCounseling and advisement of all students socially, emotionally, and academicallyPlanning and executing small group counseling and push-in lessonsAbility to assess and address mental health and behavioral concernsSkilled in developing interventions to improve behavior and increase academic achievementWork collaboratively with an interdisciplinary teamAssists students/parents in understanding school policies and procedures and offer parent workshops/information sessionsParticipates in the implementation of current initiativesAssist district and building leadership in student course selection and schedulingSupports implementation of new student-driven initiativesSpanish proficiency preferredMust have School Counselor Certification.
