TITLE: English Language Arts Teacher (Secondary) Certified Position Full-Time, 10-Month position Affiliation: Teacher’s Association CTE Department Location: TST BOCES Campus, Building B TST BOCES is seeking an innovative Integrated ELA Instructor to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) team. This role is essential for ensuring that students master both ELA core competencies and the specific communication skills necessary for success in their chosen technical fields. You will collaboratively plan, co-teach, and develop a vigorous, industry-relevant English curriculum that bridges the gap between New York State ELA standards and high-demand professional industries. DUTIES: Equity & Student Success Pillars: Serve as a vital member of a team dedicated to creating equitable opportunities for all learners. You will champion student growth by integrating the six pillars of excellence into daily instruction, ensuring every student becomes: Academically Prepared, A Creative Innovator, A Critical Thinker, An Effective Communicator, A Global Citizen, Reflective and Future-Focused Integrated Curriculum & Instruction: Design and deliver a commencement-level ELA curriculum that contextualizes learning within real-world technical scenarios. You will utilize industry-based documents (Safety Manuals, OSHA Regulations, Codes & Ordinances, Industry Publications), professional journals, and career-specific texts as core instructional materials. Collaborative Co-Teaching: Work side-by-side with CTE trade instructors using various co-teaching models (team, parallel, or station teaching) to reinforce literacy skills directly within the lab environment. Workforce Readiness & SEL: Lead specialized workshops in Resume Writing, Cover Letters, and Mock Interviews. Facilitate "Workforce SEL" by teaching the communication and conflict-resolution skills vital for professional environments. Science of Reading & Literacy: Apply instructional strategies rooted in the Science of Reading to enhance complex text comprehension and academic vocabulary acquisition for a diverse student population. Project-Based Learning: Utilize a PBL model to engage students who have previously struggled in traditional settings, creating performance-based assessments like mock proposals, branding briefs, and technical presentations. Certification Support: Partner with trade teachers to prepare students for industry certification exams by identifying and removing literacy-based barriers to testing success. *Up to 15 Summer Days May Be Available with additional compensation QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:• New York State School Teacher Certification in Secondary English Language Arts. Preferred certification in multiple areas (but not required). Previous teaching experience, preferably with High School students. START DATE: September 1, 2026 SALARY RANGE: $58,000 (2026-27 Base Salary), plus additional salary credit for graduate credits, Master’s Degree and prior related experience.
