ABOUT US:Story Place Preschool, Inc is a special needs preschool located in Castleton, NY (Just outside of Albany, N.Y.). Story Place Preschool, Inc operates with approval from the New York State Department of Health, New York State Office of Children and Family Services and New York State Education Department. We provide a continuum of individualized, quality educational and therapeutic services to children from birth to 5 years old with special needs, and provide support to their families. These services may be provided in a ten month program or a twelve month program as designated by the child's School District or County. Story Place utilizes a child-centered philosophy incorporating learning through play. Our interdisciplinary teams focus on nurturing the whole child by enhancing interests and strengths to overcome needs. Full-Time Certified Teacher Assistant:JOB DESCRIPTION: Title: Teacher Assistant Location: Story Place Preschool, Inc. Person Responsible To: Special Education Classroom Teacher Number of Staff Supervised: 0 Education and/or Experience Prerequisites: Teacher Assistant Certified through NYSED. Associates Degree in education or six credits in preschool education or special education, experience in working with preschool children. I. Basic Function: Responsible for assisting the classroom with the daily operation of the classroom and providing a healthy learning environment for each child in the classroom. II. Responsibilities: 1. Serve as a substitute for the classroom teacher when he/she is absent from class. 2. Assist classroom teacher and teacher aide in developing plans and daily classroom plans to carry out IEP’s for each child. 3. Participate in team planning meetings and keep meeting minutes. 4. Assist classroom teacher and teacher aide in carrying out daily schedules and plans for each child in the classroom. 5. Assist classroom teacher in working with small groups or entire groups of children in the classroom. 6. Work with individual children in carrying out their daily plan. 7. Lead small and large groups of children in instructional activities. 8. Under the guidance of the classroom teacher supervise children in the classroom in all their daily living activities. 9. Assist children in meeting their daily needs - in unloading from the bus, taking their outdoor clothing off, going to the bathroom, getting ready for snacks or lunch, eating snacks or lunch, going outdoors, getting ready to go home, and getting on the bus. 10. Assist children in participating in all classroom activities. 11. Assist classroom teacher and teacher aide in maintaining classroom area, equipment and supplies on a daily basis. 12. Organize classroom area, equipment and supplies for use during the day. 13. Prepare classroom for lunch or snacks. 14. Document the daily work of the children in progressing on their IEP, document daily attendance. 15. Maintain IEP files and other classroom' reports on a daily or weekly basis. 16. Participate in all classroom related planning or in-service groups. 17. Maintain a clean and healthy environment for all children at Story Place Preschool, Inc. 18. Participate in all general staff meetings, classroom meetings, team meetings and in-services. 19. Participate in monthly team reviews of major health and educational issues of each child in the classroom 20. Communicate with members of the child's service team on an as needed basis. 21. Communicate to teacher's aide about daily plans and schedules for each child on an as needed basis. 22. As assigned by the classroom teacher, communicate with parents of the children in the classroom regarding questions, concerns, and desires when they visit the classroom to talk about their child's educational and programming needs. 23. May visit with parents when requested by the classroom teacher. 24. Engage in professional growth by keeping informed of the new trends and technology by visiting other programs, and by attending relevant in-services and conferences. 25. Adhere to policies and procedures established by Story Place Preschool, Inc. in the Policies and Procedures Handbook as well as the Employee Handbook 26.
