STORY PLACE PRESCHOOL, INC.JOB DESCRIPTION:FAMILY SERVICES COORDINATOR AND SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST Title: Family Services Coordinator and School PsychologistLocation: Story Place Preschool, Inc.Person Responsible To: Preschool Leader, Story Place Preschool, Inc., LCSWNumber of Staff Supervised: 0Education and/or Experience Prerequisites:Master's Degree in Psychology and two years of relevant experience and knowledge of child development. Basic Function:Responsible for providing support and indirect services to families and the children enrolled in Story Place Preschool, Inc. Responsibilities:Provide indirect services for families through CPSE and Early Intervention (EI) structures.Facilitate intake process.Develop service plan for families.Facilitate annual planning meeting.Develop, implement and coordinate training programs for families on relevant topics, such as: Behavior Management, Parenting, Play, and CSE Advocacy.Provide suggestions, strategies, and techniques to staff regarding how to handle sensitive issues with parents or how to handle parents having a conflict with programmatic issues.Provide counseling, referrals and alternative ideas to families experiencing a crisis, if needed.Provides assistance to Preschool Leader and LCSW as requested. Provide indirect service to referrals and to center-based families.Participate in the initial Intake Process as an advocate for the family.Conduct the tour of the program and its facilities, when requested.Conduct home visits, as appropriate, following the Intake Process.Participate in the IEP process through participation in team meetings and family conferences, as needed.Communicate with families, as needed, especially when they request information on the program.Work directly with parents who are having conflicts over programmatic issues, transition issues, and other issues that may develop when one has a child with special needs – provide support and strategies for growth or change.Work directly with parents regarding the implementation of daily living activities and behavioral management in the home environment, as needed.Educate parents regarding child development issues impacting their child and assist in obtaining services for their children, making sure to maintain an accurate and active file of community services.Run support groups for parents and family members, as needed.Maintain contact with families through home visits and telephone conversations.Is available to work with or to be with parents who are visiting their child’s classroom.Coordinate parent meeting by managing the setting up, coordinating refreshments and cleanup activities. Individual Psycho-educational Evaluation:Participate in the Multidisciplinary evaluation team.Administer psychological evaluations which are not racially or culturally discriminatory.Assess specific areas of Educational need and not just areas which are designed to provide a general intelligence quotient.Assess adaptive behavior if the student is suspected of functioning within the range of mental retardation.Assess motor areas when requested to provide motor screening through the school district.The Psychologist may be requested to observe the child in the current educational setting.Interpret evaluation results and documents the results in an acceptable format indicating areas of strengths/weaknesses. Behavior Management Support:Develop, implement and coordinate training programs for staff.Upon request of the Preschool Leader, observe behavior management issues in the classroom.Provide suggestions, strategies, and techniques to staff regarding behavior issues at school. Provide families with strategies on topics such as behavior management and parenting.Develop specific behavior plans as requested by the Preschool Leader.Provide counseling, referrals and alternative ideas to families experiencing a crisis.Participate in team meetings as requested by the Preschool Leader.Assist with behavior difficulties in classrooms and community based students.Provides assistance to Preschool Leader as requested. Maintain open communication with staff and communicate informally through the necessary channels.Communicate with all appropriate staff regarding relevant information available on families of children at Story Place Preschool, Inc.Attend and participate in all team meetings and class meetings and provide up-to-date information regarding each child’s skills and behaviors in the home environment, family situations which affect the child, observations of the child’s behavior in the classroom.Attend and participate in all staff meetings and in-service training programs.Meet regularly with the Preschool Leader to keep informed of family services programs or events.Read communication notebooks weekly to keep informed of the child’s progress in the classroom.Assist the program director in planning for providing family services at the center.Assist in special events related to families (e.g., holiday giving, family day, family picnics, parent day, sibling day, and grandparents’ day).Ensure that appropriate record keeping systems are in place and that all documented requirements are met.Obtain the initial Social History on all new families.10. Update the Social History of all new families.11. Prepare all requested written reports.12. Adhere to policies and procedures established by Story Place Preschool, Inc. in the Employee Handbook.13. Provide Assistance to the Preschool Leader and LCSW as requested. In consultation with the Preschool Leader, reports incidents of suspected child abuse and maltreatment to the New York State Child Abuse Registry. Engages in professional growth by keeping informed of the new trends and technologies, by visiting other programs, and by attending relevant in-services and conferences.
