Broad FunctionUnder the overall supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, the The Scotia-Glenville Central School District is seeking an exceptional educational leader for the probationary track position of Academic Head of Science and Health. This 11-month position involves overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of science and health programs across the secondary level (grades 6-12) and is under the overall supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Qualifications· New York State certification: School District Leader (SDL) or School District Administrator (SDA)· NYS teaching certificate in science· Minimum of 3 years of building or district administrative experience· Minimum of 5 years of teaching science· Strong understanding of NYSSLS and NYS Health Frameworks· Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into instruction· Demonstrated ability to foster community relations· Excellent communication skills and team-building abilitiesResponsibilities· Provide strategic direction for the Science and Health programs (grades 6-12).· Ensure alignment with NYSSLS and NYS Health Frameworks, while staying updated on educational best practices.· Collaborate with teachers to enhance instruction quality through advanced planning strategies and curriculum mapping.· Lead professional development workshops on NYSED initiatives and regulations, technology integration, curriculum mapping, and instructional methodologies.· Support teacher goal setting, performance evaluation, and professional development.· Utilize data analysis to set short and long-term goals and drive instructional improvements.· Organize and oversee administration of science Regents exams, Grade 8 science testing, and other local exams.· Track and maintain records of required laboratory investigations, communicating progress toward meeting requirements with stakeholders.· Manage and oversee department purchases and overall budget.· Serve as the District Chemical Hygiene Officer.· Maintain strong relationships with the community and stakeholders. AuthorityThe Academic Head for Science and Health works in consort with the principal of each school within which he/she has supervisory responsibilities for curriculum and staff. In all matters which relate to more than one school, the Academic Head is directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction.
