Duties: Putnam Northern Westchester BOCES is seeking a Multilingual Learning and Community Engagement Specialist who will provide training to schools supported by the Leadership and Student Support Services department. This role focuses on enhancing language-integrated pedagogical practices, strengthening teacher capacity, and fostering community partnerships through coaching and professional learning.Duties may include, but are not limited to:Providing targeted professional development to general education and ENL/bilingual teachers to strengthen language-integrated instructional approaches, i.e., translanguagingDesign and facilitate high-quality professional learning in ENL/bilingual pedagogy, culturally responsive teaching, and language acquisition through contemporary researchWork professionally and collaboratively with the Leadership and Student Support Services department staff and the Professional Learning DivisionParticipate in New York State Education Department (NYSED) and the Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages (OBEWL) professional development activities, including attending statewide training (as needed), monthly webinars, online learning opportunities, and monthly regional meetingsFoster and maintain collaborative relationships with community-based organizations and partnersPromote the Community Schools Model and build the capacity of teachers and family resources coordinators/liaisonsFacilitate professional development and/or provide coaching to staff in schools, districts, and programs on enhancing language-integrated pedagogical practices, family and community engagement strategies, strengthening teacher capacity, seal of biliteracy, etc.Facilitate district and school teams in developing and implementing related plansOther duties to be determined by supervisor(s)This is a full-time, 10-month position that will include a 4-year probationary period and lead to a possible recommendation for Tenure.Qualifications:Master’s degree in TESOL, bilingual education, or a related field preferred;Valid NYS certification in ESOL/TESOL or Bilingual Education;Minimum of 3-5 years of K–12 experience working with multilingual learners;Demonstrated success in coaching or supporting educators to improve instruction for culturally and linguistically diverse students;Expertise in second language acquisition, culturally responsive pedagogy, and bilingual education practices;Excellent oral and written communication skills;Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;Proficiency in one or more languages other than English;Experience in multilingual instruction or family engagement;Experience in the community schools model and partnering with community-based organizations and other regional resources;A commitment to the PNW BOCES mission of service and innovation through partnership.Characteristics Desired:Passionate commitment and demonstrated effectiveness in enhancing language-integrated pedagogical practices, strengthening teacher capacity through coaching and professional learning;Experience delivering professional development and strong team leadership skills;Regularly travel by car to schools across Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties.
