Duties: Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES is seeking a Director of Special Education to provide oversight and coordination of all aspects of the special education department; develop and maintain positive, meaningful partnerships within BOCES and with special education leaders in component school districts; facilitate special education leadership regional forum; design, implement, and evaluate special education programs, services and professional development. Successful candidate must demonstrate leadership abilities to create a BOCES-wide and regional vision for cutting edge, special education programs and services; oversee and manage special education personnel; supervise and build capacity among BOCES special education leaders, teachers, and staff; identify regional needs and create high quality, cost-effective programs and services; develop and manage the special education budget in a creative, cost-effective manner. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of Special Education laws and regulations; experience creating high quality, innovative programs and services to meet changing regional needs; expertise in program development, supervision and budgeting; proven ability as a rigorous academic leader with experience providing effective instructional practices for students with disabilities and professional development; an effective communicator who has developed positive relationships with colleagues, faculty, staff, students and parents; a minimum of five years of administrative experience in a special education leadership position; a degree in special education or a related field as well as New York State district level administrative certification required (SDA or SDL).Characteristics Desired: Successful candidates must have a positive, can-do attitude and be committed to the BOCES Mission of Service and Innovation through Partnership.
