The Port Chester Public Schools seek a talented, innovative and inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music education to students in grades K-5. The successful candidate will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, playing of instruments (including playing recorders) and performing other duties directly related to this job description. In addition, the successful candidate will collaborate with school staff to foster an appreciation of music and find ways to connect music to all facets of the school community.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES• Teaches general music to K-5 students including harmony, appreciation, history, and ensemble.• Creates a positive classroom culture utilizing effective classroom management which incorporates a student centered and inclusive pedagogy.• Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.• Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students and school musical events.• Is willing to collaborate with colleagues to develop cross curricular learning experiences.• Maintains care/responsibility and keeps accurate inventory of school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.• Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill level of students.• Utilizes current music technology to deliver innovative project based, culturally responsive music curriculum.• Provides opportunities for music ensembles including recorder ensemble, drum choir, rock band, choir & musicals.• Plans, rehearses, and directs students in three musical programs for school and community.• Differentiates music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.• Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.• Develops and refines music curriculum based on NY State Arts Standards and NAfME’s standards of creating, performing, responding, and connecting.• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances.• Plan with the school Principal to provide musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED The position requires current NYS certification in Music K-12.
