TITLE: Teacher of the Blind and Visually ImpairedREPORTS TO: Director of Pupil Personnel ServicesBASIC FUNCTION: Provide school-wide support for DeafBlind students in the area of academics, transition, and accommodations utilizing a direct/indirect instructional support model. MAJOR DUTIES:Coordinate programs and services for DeafBlind students.Develop I.E.P.'s for DeafBlind students. Confer with related services staff, educational staff, parents, and school districts to write individual educational plans. Evaluate students’ progress with respect to their I.E.P.'s. Complete progress reports on I.E.P.sProvide instruction in the development and maintenance of skills as indicated in the IEP; low vision and visual efficiency skills, concept development and academic skills, daily living skills, communication skills, social/emotional skills and abilities, and sensory motor skills.Conduct and interpret functional vision assessments and complete written reports for the CSE.Collaborate with related service providers and co-teach with the classroom teacher to aid in the provision of direct and indirect support for DeafBlind students.Provide consultation to all staff who directly provide support for DeafBlind students.Collaborate with local DeafBlind agencies and act as DeafBlind liaison for the school for all matters relating to DeafBlind students.Provide technical assistance and supports for DeafBlind students and oversee the delivery of high and low-tech assistive technology provided to students. Train service providers and instructional staff in specific topics related to DeafBlindness, including evidence-based strategies for children with DeafBlindness.Collects and analyzes data pertinent to the skills and progress of students and adjusts interventions or strategies as needed. Coordinate supplementary materials, educational aids and equipment to support students’ participation in all classroom activities and transition throughout the school day.All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.QUALIFICATIONS:New York State certification: Teacher of the Blind and Visually ImpairedAn SCPI level of Advanced preferred in American Sign LanguageKnowledge and experience with classroom management and methods of instructing DeafBlind studentsKnowledge and experience with Assistive Technology, Google Docs, and Mac Computers.Orientation & Mobility Certification is a plus. Applicants for this position must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 unless eligible for a medical or religious exemption in accordance with E.E.O.C. requirements.SALARY: Per the Fanwood Teacher’s Association contract. $52,486 - $118,603
