Major Responsibilities:Teach ASL to K-12 studentsHelp develop or identify deaf studies curriculum for Pre-K through 12Assess ASL linguistic and communication needs of students; write ASL assessment reportsPropose strategies for improved ASL instruction and learning; work with teachers to implement strategiesDevelop and identify materials/resources to support ASL instruction and learning in the classroomWork with teachers to integrate deaf studies information in their lessonsParticipate in multidisciplinary ASL evaluations of incoming students, as neededParticipate as member of the instructional teamServe as educational resource person on issues related to deaf studies, ASL, and communicationWork with Family Infant Program (FIP) Along with ASL Specialist, coordinate annual school wide ASL Literacy eventWork closely with ASL Specialist and other ASL staff on relevant projects and strategiesPerform other duties as assignedQualifications:Masters degree in Deaf Education or related field, with coursework related to ASL, Linguistics, Deaf StudiesNY State Certification or eligibility to become certifiedFluency in American Sign LanguageMinimum of 3 years of teaching experience preferredExcellent interpersonal skills; interest in and ability to work as part of a teamExperience working with deaf children and/or youth
