TITLE: Maintenance AssistantREPORTS TO: Supervisor, Grounds and MaintenancePOSITION SUMMARY: Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repairs on structures and equipment. Perform routine repairs and maintenance on plumbing, steam equipment, electrical equipment, appliances and other mechanical and electrical equipment.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform routine, repetitive, preventative maintenance installation and repair tasks in one or a combination of mechanical trades, electrical trades, plumbing trades, building construction, and associated motor equipment.Operate machine tools, including lathes, shapers, saws, milling machines and drill presses. Also, use hand and shop tools to perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on structures and equipment.Perform routine repair and replacement of plumbing equipment, repair and adjust water mixers, thermostats and other equipment. Locate and unplug stoppages, work on domestic steam equipment, repair leaks in steam and water lines.Cut and weld a variety of metal materials and equipment.Perform semi-skilled carpentry activities, including repairing doors, windows, stairs, railings, furniture, and locks.Repair existing and Assemble new bookcases, shelves, tables, chairs, signs, and partitions. Perform masonry repairs and work.Replace parts on heating and hot water equipment such as filters and pumps.Clean and organize equipment.Repair and maintain locks and keys.Paint and redecorate, work on interior and exteriors of buildings, including staining, wallpapering, plastering, sanding, taping and spray painting.Perform routine tasks of the electrical trade including repairs to equipment such as door motors, electric ranges and other appliances, replacing wires and cables, maintain lighting fixtures, outlets and switches.Perform Snow removal during Winter months. Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, or snow shovels, and spread snow-melting products.Perform routine Lawncare maintenance: Mowing and edging lawnsPerform routine plant care: Trimming hedges, shrubs, small trees, and planting flowers, trees, and shrubs Perform all other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS:Two years or more experience in maintenance and/or mechanical equipment.Working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment of various trades.Capable of reading plans, specifications and manuals.Physically able to perform heavy labor, climb ladders and work at heights.Able to operate and licensed to drive a motor vehicle.Knowledge of or willingness to learn American Sign Language.
