The county seat of Norwich is advantageously located within a 50-mile radius of the major cities of Binghamton and Syracuse.The Position__________________________________________________________________________As the Instructional Leader of the Middle School, the principal’s role is one that guides teacher learning and development, resulting in highly relevant and engaging practices to support student learning. All work should mirror the Mission, Vision and Core Values of the District.Achieving academic excellence requires that the middle school principal work collaboratively with students, staff and community to make progressive decisions in advancing the ability to enable student pathways to graduation.Additionally, the position is responsible for the daily procedures and District policies that ensure the management and safety of the building.Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Program(s) and Curriculum Development:Supervises the development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional programs and curriculum content through a participative system involving the Superintendent, Director of Teaching and Learning and teachers and any others who may be able to help improve the system.Develops a climate for participative involvement of staff in curriculum analysis on a regularly scheduled basis that utilizes measurement towards goals as a foundation.Provides opportunities and encouragement for staff to increase program expertise. The successful candidate will collaborate with staff on the use of their professional growth to develop curriculum with high rigor and relevance to increase student achievement. Establishes and promotes high standards and expectations, for all students and staff, on academic performance and behavior through an atmosphere of efficiency, cooperation, stimulation, recognition and service in which the school program can operate most effectively.Student Centered AdvancementEncourages the involvement of students in the operations of the school where matters are of direct relationship to students. The principal is responsible for developing the specific avenues by which this involvement can be utilized to the maximum benefit of the school system.Confers with representatives of the student body on appropriate school-related issues. This input will be used in developing and articulating a school approach to Mission and Vision attainment.Researches and collects data from students regarding the needs of the student body.Nurtures both students and staff to achieve their greatest potential academically and instructionally, socially and emotionally.School Community CommunicationsPromotes an environment of cooperation wherein the students, staff, and community members can effectively obtain personal satisfaction in their roles within the high school.Maintains high visibility in the school and is accessible to the community. Listens and responds appropriately to staff, student and community concerns resulting in clear communication of decisions and rationale to all affected.Works actively with parent-teacher organizations and other community groups dedicated to the improvement of the educational system.Represents the school district in professional and community groups. Attendance at special events held to recognize student achievement, school sponsored activities, functions, and athletic events is expected.Promotes a climate that balances openness and control by demonstrating a sensitivity to the diversity through shared decision-making.Maintains open lines of communication about school activities through regular correspondence, attendance at parent meetings and the like, and serves as an ex-officio member of all committees and councils with the school.Establishes a professional rapport with students and staff. Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents and school personnel. Serves as a role model for students, dressing professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the education profession. Encourages all staff to do the same.Personnel and Financial ManagementPrepares the preliminary general budget, citing priorities and justifications for the school. The principal shall also be held responsible for the supervisions of the expenditures within his budget to assure the district of prudent management of funds.Completes, in a timely fashion, all records and reports as requested by the Superintendent or their designee.Recommends staff and/or appointment of student activity advisors.Building Organization and SupervisionFulfills all requests for various types of reports relating to such matters as attendance, enrollment, finances, State Department of Education, School Board, or District Office Administration.Arranges for the coordination of scheduling for extracurricular activities, social functions and all other uses of the building and have a school calendar maintained of these activities.Arranges for a plan and organization of pupil attendance and accounting policies and procedures in keeping with the school’s responsibility and Board of Education policy.Manages, evaluates, and supervises effective and clear procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values and goals of the school This includes instructional programs, extracurricular activities, and discipline systems to ensure a safe and orderly climate, building maintenance, program evaluation, personnel management, office operations, and emergency procedures.Establishes the annual master schedule for instructional programs, ensuring sequential learning experiences for students consistent with the school’s philosophy, mission statement and instructional goals.Personal DevelopmentFrequently and consistently uses self-reflection as a tool for self-growth that allows one to be seen as a role model for expected staff and student behavior.Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and active participation in the affairs of professional activities and organizations,Remains on the cutting edge of changes and developments in the profession RequirementsNCSD seeks a highly qualified, motivated and committed Secondary Principal.NYS SAS/SBL required.Salary commensurate with experience.WE ARE AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYERPosting Date: August 30, 2021The New York State Human Rights Law prohibits discrimination in employment because of age, race, creed, color, national origin, sex, gender, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, or criminal record.
