The Substitute Teacher is directly responsible for all students assigned to their specific classroom for the period of time they are scheduled. The Substitute teacher is responsible for supervision of all students in common areas of the school whenever they are not assigned to teaching and/or in situations that deem teacher intervention/supervision. Follows regular Teacher’s lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning, and that encourages students to participate. Assigns classwork and homework as necessary, according to lesson plans. Modifies teaching styles to fit the learning styles of various students. Maintains a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment. Supervises students out of class such as in the hallways and in the cafeteria. Creates lesson plans, grades classwork, homework and tests and attends parent-teacher conferences (only for long-term Substitute assignments). Follows all policies and procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook and SAVE Plan. Takes attendance and documents daily notes. Develops lesson plans, curricular materials, and supplementary materials compatible with the Nurses Middle College Charter High School - Capital Region’s mission and vision and congruent with the Common Core State Standards as needed. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to provide opportunities for all students to demonstrate competency with content and skills expected. Adapts curricular material and pedagogies to develop relevant, thoughtful and sequential assignments that guide and challenge students as needed. Differentiates lessons, units, assessments, etc. based on the needs of each student. Implements ILP, PLP, IEP, 504, ELL plans as indicated by lesson plan. Documents accommodations and modifications as part of RTI process, as indicated. Creates an environment of respect and rapport by managing relationships with students and ensuring that relationships among students are positive and supportive. Supervises and is responsible for an orderly and business-like classroom where standards and expectations are explicitly clear and safety is a priority at all times. Corrects and supports professional behavior expectations in a respectful manner. Uses non-discriminatory practices in all activities. Respects and honors confidentiality. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior and professionalism expected by the school.Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology or related field required; Current and active State Department of Education certification and highly qualified states in content area as specified and mandated by the State’s Department of Education; Current B.C.I.; Proof of U.S. Citizenship, residency or work visa required; Sets the proper tone from the beginning to ensure ongoing classroom management; Possess the ability to communicate verbally and in writing; Self-starter who is detail oriented; Meticulous attention to data collection and data analysis to drive decision making; Proficient in PowerSchool, Naviance or other student information system preferred; Remains current regarding changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field to ensure quality leadership; Takes responsibility for behavior, mistakes and results, learns from successes and failures, and teaches others to do the same; Manages time and resources effectively, prioritizing efforts according to organizational goals; Consistently demonstrates respect and appreciation for others by empathizing, valuing them as individuals; Demonstrates flexibility, friendly manner and good at establishing quick rapport with students; Seeks constructive feedback and other opportunities for self-development.NursesMC-CR is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
