Our Mission: To prepare a diverse group of students to become the highly educated and professional nursing workforce of the future.Your Mission: To oversee the emotional, mental, physical and social health of students and provide them with basic health services throughout the school day. The School Nurse manages students who have chronic health conditions and students with disabilities which may include administering medication as needed and working with parents and teachers to create and enforce care plans. As part of the Nurses Middle College Charter High School - Capital Region (NursesMC™-Capital Region) community, the School Nurse will support students, families and staff members as part of building and maintaining a positive school culture in service of achieving the Nurses Middle College’s Pillars of Nursing. Community Engagement: Creates and develops positive relationships with all members of the school community (students, faculty, staff, families); Effectively and productively engages with students and parents; Effectively communicates with the community to create positive support, understanding, and participation for continued school improvement; Meets with parents to discuss health-related issues and assist in referring to community agencies, as needed; Serve as a resource to parents (e.g. information sharing).Student Support: Promotes NursesMC™-Capital Region’s educational philosophy, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures that directly benefit the student; Assists students attain an optimum level of physical, social, and emotional health; Establishes and maintains a comprehensive health program for students, parents and staff; Educates students and staff on health procedures; Consults and collaborates with teachers, parents, and administrators on a regular basis in order to develop strategies to help students with issues related to student care; Supports students’ social, emotional, personal health, and academic growth; Conducts student health appraisals, including medical examinations, vision and hearing screenings, height and weight measurements, follows-up on issues noted, and consults with teachers and parents regarding health and/or ongoing issues; Administers medication as needed; Coordinates a program of communicable disease control based on NursesMC™-Capital Region policies, regulations, laws and good practice; Prepares school accident reports as needed; Immediately report to the School Leader safety hazards or unsanitary conditions observed in the school environment; Order and maintain supplies for the health service program; Adheres to all health and safety policies, including all precautions as noted in the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing for a regionally accredited institution (Master of Science degree in Nursing preferred); Current license as a Registered Nurse by the State Department of Health; Two years of documented experience as a Registered Nurse (Pediatric experience preferred); Current CPR/AED Certification; Proof of all State’s Department of Health-required vaccinations, including the COVID-19 series; Current B.C.I.; Proof of U.S. Citizenship, residency or work visa required; Knowledge of many areas of health including mental health; Knowledge of State health regulations; Self-starter; Detailed orientated; Ability to assess situations and act quickly; Ability to communicate well with others.
