*** IN ADDITION TO APPLYING ON OLAS, ALL APPLICANTS MUST VISIT THE NASSAU BOCES Employment Opportunities PAGE TO COMPLETE THEIR APPLICATION ***The Nassau BOCES Department of Special Education seeks a Program Coordinator who is an experienced Speech Language Therapist with strong leadership, technical, interpersonal and organizational skills. The ideal candidate must be able to supervise speech services, provide professional development, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and collaborative skills to effectively work with staff, students, districts and families to facilitate maximum student growth. RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide supervision to staff providing direct and indirect speech language services to students/consumers, in compliance with all laws and standards. Assist in the identification of staffing needs, recruitment, screening and interviewing of applicants. Facilitate program-specific placements, orientation, mentoring, support and supervision of new, probationary staff. Assist in the coordination and implementation of staff development activities for the Speech, Language Services Department. Supervision of the Speech Department's instructional technology from planning to implementation and assessment and the provision of support and information to local districts concerning technology for students with special needs. As assigned, represents the agency at meetings of professional organizations, advisory councils, and committees, as they relate to departmental assignment. Performs such other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Speech, Language Services Supervisor I or Central Office Special Education Administration.REQUIREMENTS: New York State Education Department - School District Leader (SDL) / School District Administrator (SDA). New York State Education Department Certification –Speech and Hearing Handicapped or Speech and Language Disabilities. New York State Speech and Language Pathology License. Five years’ experience as a Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped or Speech Pathologist. Certificate of Clinical Competence – American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is preferred. Experience working with children and adolescents with Autism and/or emotional and behavioral disorders is highly desirable.
