Nassau BOCES Department of Regional Schools and Instructional Programs is seeking a New York State certified Nurse Assisting teacher for an anticipated position at the Satellite In-District Valley Stream location of the Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Educational Center. The candidate would teach Nursing Assisting to high school students in a high school career setting. Duties would include the preparation of course outlines, detailed lesson plans and extensive hands-on instruction to prepare students for college or a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Topics covered by the teacher include infection control, Anatomy and Physiology, Medical terminology, measuring and recording vitals, nutrition and fluids, growth and development, Geriatrics, CPR, First Aid, and common health issues. The candidate will be expected toManage a classroom environment appropriately and be responsible for meeting each learner's individual needs Evaluate and assess each pupil's performance, knowledge, and skills as part of record keeping duties Incorporate nursing assistant skills and processes into classroom and clinical lessons Supervise students in a clinical rotation at hospitals/nursing homes Communicate with local Health Care facilities to provide clinical experiences for students Maintain inventory of classroom supplies, and following re-ordering policies and procedures Keep informed of innovations and job requirements in the industry that must be reflected in the curriculum in order to develop marketable skills as required by prospective employers Students will be prepared to take the New York State Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) exam at the end of the two-year program. Technology will need to be used as part of the instruction to maintain an online presence and to enhance the educational setting. REQUIREMENTS: Candidate must be currently licensed as a NYS Registered Nurse and should have a strong background in 21st century healthcare. Candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, staff, administration, and parents. The ideal candidate must have in-depth, comprehensive and appropriate work experience as a Registered Nurse (RN). Experience must include, but is not limited to, working as a nurse in the care of chronically ill or elderly patients in a long-term care/skilled nursing facility. A valid NYS Office of Professions Registered Professional Nurse license is required.
