*** IN ADDITION TO APPLYING ON OLAS, ALL APPLICANTS MUST VISIT THE NASSAU BOCES Employment Opportunities PAGE TO COMPLETE THEIR APPLICATION ***GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:Supervises all phases of the transportation program of a school district; performs related duties as required.COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES:Under general supervision, the position requires the use of judgment in coordinating and supervising the efficient operation of transportation facilities and the transportation staff, whether the school owns and operates its own buses.TYPICAL DUTIES:Supervises all personnel engaged in the operation of all district vehicles.Recruits, selects, trains, and evaluates all transportation personnel.Prepares time schedules, bus routes, and procedures for the operation of buses.Prepares specifications for bidding of transportation requirements, assists in the analysis of bids, and prepares contracts with bus contractors in accordance with Board of Education policy and New York State law.Supervises the preparation of all reports, including maintenance reports as required by the New York State Department of Education, Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Transportation, and the School District.Investigates and properly resolves all transportation accidents and parent complaints.Reviews all transportation purchases and bills before submission for payment.Evaluates motor vehicle, medical and fingerprinting records before hiring transportation personnel.Implements Board of Education transportation policies.Reviews all transportation purchases and bills before submission for payment.Assists with basic, advanced and refresher training programs for bus drivers.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Considerable knowledge of the competitive bidding process.Knowledge of all County, State, and Federal rules and regulations pertaining to school bus transportation and safety.Knowledge of the school district area, location of all schools within the district, and those located outside the district for which transportation is provided.Ability to plan and schedule all phases of a transportation program.Ability to understand and follow complex oral or written directions.Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.Ability to issue either written or oral instructions.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, subordinates, and parents.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Training and ExperienceGraduation from high school and three years of satisfactory experience supervising, dispatching, preparing time schedules, and laying out of routes for pupil transportation.School Bus Driver Instructor (SBDI) certification and 19A certification preferred.*** IN ADDITION TO APPLYING ON OLAS, ALL APPLICANTS MUST VISIT THE NASSAU BOCES Employment Opportunities PAGE TO COMPLETE THEIR APPLICATION ***
