Position: Lower School Instructional Support/Curriculum SpecialistDivision: Curriculum and InstructionSupervisor: Lower School PrincipalSupervises: Lower School Instructional AssistantsPosition Type: 10 month positionHours: Monday to Friday: 7:55 a.m.-4:00 p.m.FLSA Status: ExemptCFR: 237 SUMMARYResponsible for assisting the Principal with leadership, direction, supervision, operations and accountability of the Lower School department. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITES Supervise 1 hour of Academic Intervention Services daily. Monitoring and assessing implementation of curriculum Keep up to date regarding new developments in curriculum, instruction, and administration. Assess students’ reading and writing in Fountas and Pinnell levels Collaborate with the Bilingual Specialists to support Benchmark Literacy Assessments for students and keep track of data. Collaborate with the Bilingual Specialists to support students American Sign Language (ASL) use, literacy, and literature.? Team teach with the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) members on Social Emotional Learning Collaborate with the PBIS team. Supervise Instructional Assistants. Administer the extracurricular academic program. Collaborate with the Testing Coordinator for schedulingCollect and maintain testing data/ Organize and share reports with the Supervisor of Professional Development and Assessment. Review IEPs and ensure submission deadlines are met. Submit, track and follow-up purchase orders for educational supplies. Serves as the liaison between the Parents Staff Association and the School. Submit and follow up on work orders and maintenance requests. Support technology integration practices in the school educational programs. Assist Lower School Principal with other duties as assigned. When necessary, cover classes as substitute teacher.REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES Knowledge of deaf community. American Sign Language proficiency. School experience working with children and education faculty. Administrative experience. Knowledge of the psychological and physiological development of children. Knowledge of curriculum and principles of learning. Knowledge of language and literacy development. Demonstrate commitment to the school vision and mission. Commitment to be flexible and open to updated and on-going research in the field of Deaf Education and data-based decision-making.? Recognition of self as a learner, able to identify areas for growth and commitment to working in these areas. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCENYS School Building Leader (SBL) certificate, preferred.Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field.New York State Teaching Certification. SECURITY CLEARANCERequired clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed and SCR and SEL clearance. PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENT Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
