The Herricks School District is seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Leave Replacement Reading Teacher for Searingtown School. This role is central to our mission of preparing students for success in the 21st century by fostering the "6Cs": Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, Creative Innovation, Compassion, and Confidence.The successful candidate will serve as a "North Star" for our 2nd and 3rd-grade students, providing Academic Intervention Services (AIS) designed to close achievement gaps through evidence-based practices and compassionate instruction.Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Leadership & InterventionTargeted Support: Plan and provide AIS reading services for 2nd and 3rd-grade students using a mix of programmatic and home-grown materials.Evidence-Based Practice: Utilize the latest research from the Science of Reading to design and implement targeted instruction.Specialized Support: Provide specialized reading support for students with IEPs, collaborating closely with special education teachers to monitor progress and attending annual reviews.Program Implementation: Deliver instruction using the Wilson Reading System and Friends on the Block.Assessment & Data ManagementProgress Monitoring: Perform weekly monitoring using aimsweb+ ORF, aimsweb+ Maze, and home-grown assessments; track all data via the Branching Minds platform.Benchmark Testing: Administer comprehensive benchmark assessments using a diverse menu of tools, including running records, informal decoding inventories, and power words assessments.Collaborative Analysis: Participate in grade-level data meetings and MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) meetings to offer reading expertise and advise on necessary interventions.Collaboration & CommunicationTeam Integration: Support classroom teachers with reading, writing, Fundations, and home-grown morphology units.Family Engagement: Maintain open communication with families via email, phone, ParentSquare, and formal progress reports, building trust through transparency and respect.Professionalism: Demonstrate collaboration by working efficiently with staff to achieve the common goal of student growth.QualificationsAppropriate NYS Teacher Certification (Literacy preferred).Wilson Reading System Certification is required.A commitment to fostering Creative Innovation and Critical Thinking in young learners.
