The Teaching Assistant shall:Hold New York State Teaching Assistant Certification.Have ability to relate to and work with children with disabilities.Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and fingerprint clearance has been given by the Department of Education.Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation applicable to New York State laws.Pass the State required Tuberculin Test prior to start date.10. Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director may find appropriate and acceptable.The Teaching Assistant shall be employed under the following terms: Work year of ten months (181 days) with summer per diem work as available.Salary, benefits, leave time, and conditions specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.Conditions established by Federal and State laws and regulations, as well as The Hallen School policies and procedures. JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the direct supervision of the teacher, the Teaching Assistant shall: Establish and maintain as positive, respectful and supportive relationship with all students and staff.Assist the teacher with the preparation of all materials, books, and supplies needed to reinforce skills and concepts taught by the teacher.Accompany class to all specials as assigned.Assume responsibility to class in the teacher’s absence.Assist in providing testing accommodations.Utilize own special skills and abilities by assisting in instructional programs in such areas as foreign languages, arts, crafts, music and similar subjects.Assist the teacher in related clerical work such as keeping attendance records, collecting fees, and performing general housekeeping duties.Monitor and score tests, class assignments, etc.Assist the teacher with classroom management and monitoring of student on task behavior—use positive behavior intervention strategies including de-escalation techniques.10. Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.11. Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend required meetings.12. Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and effective work ethic.13. Display ethical behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.14. De-personalize students’ inappropriate behaviors especially when directed toward you.15. Support instruction, tutoring, and supervision of individual student or small groups of students.16. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising responsibilities and duties and disclose such information within legal confines with prior approval of administration.17. Adhere to all applicable Federal and New York State Board of Education rules and regulations and The Hallen School policies and procedures.18. Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by their supervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
