JOB TITLE: TEACHER (includes classroom, subject specific, and music, art, family consumer science and physical education)NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:New York State Teachers’ Standards are included in Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Professional Practice and address seven major categories of teacher’s performance.Knowledge of Students and Student LearningKnowledge of Content and Instructional PlanningInstructional PracticeLearning EnvironmentAssessment for Student LearningProfessional Responsibilities and CollaborationProfessional GrowthPerformance indicators are provided for each of the Standards and form the basis of the teacher evaluation. The teacher evaluation addresses whether the individual meets the expectation, needs improvement, or does not meet the expectation.All behaviors and matters related to the assigned student’s behavior and progress are confidential and protected under the federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and may only be shared with the classroom teacher and appropriate therapists with administration approval. QUALIFICATIONS:The Teacher shall:Hold New York State Teacher’s Certification.Have ability to relate to and work with children with disabilities.Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.Exhibit a personality that demonstrates interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community.Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.Provide proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status by completing Federal Form I-9 in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.Provide evidence that a criminal record history check has been conducted and fingerprint clearance has been given by the Department of Education.Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation applicable to New York State laws.Pass the State required Tuberculin Test prior to start date.Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Director may find appropriate and acceptable.VERIFICATION OF COMPETENCY:Application, resume, and updated transcript(s).Required documentation outlined in the qualifications above.Letters of reference from former employers, teachers, or other professional sources.Employment interview.EMPLOYMENT TERMS:The Teacher shall be employed under the following terms:Work year of ten months (181 days) with summer per diem work as available.Salary and conditions of employment specified in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.Conditions established by Federal and State laws and regulations, as well as The Hallen School policies and procedures. JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The Teacher shall:Meet expectations for each of the performance indicators addressed in the New York State Teacher Standards (i.e. Danielson’s Framework).Establish and maintain a positive, respectful and supportive relationship with assigned student, all students, and staff.Use computers and/or electronic equipment to fulfill job functions.Participate in appropriate in-service and workshop programs and attend required meetings.Serve as a role model for students and staff in demonstrating positive attitudes, appropriate attire and grooming, and effective work ethic.Display ethical behavior in working with students, parents, school personnel, and outside agencies associated with the school.De-personalize students’ inappropriate behaviors especially when directed toward you.Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising responsibilities and duties and disclose such information within legal confines with prior approval of administration.Adhere to all applicable Federal and New York State Board of Education rules and regulations and The Hallen School policies and procedures.Perform any duties and responsibilities that are within the scope of employment, as assigned by supervisor and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation.
