The successful candidate will be committed to supporting the academic, social, emotional, and career development of all students through the implementation of a comprehensive District Counseling Plan.QualificationsMaster’s Degree and valid New York State certification as a School Counselor requiredDemonstrated commitment to continued professional growth and personal developmentStrong interpersonal and communication skillsExcellent computer skills for record keeping, scheduling, and correspondenceResponsibilitiesThe School Counselor is a specialist in human behavior and relationships who supports students through four primary interventions: individual and group counseling, large group guidance, consultation, and coordination.Key responsibilities include:Implementing and maintaining a comprehensive school counseling program based on ASCA national standards in collaboration with school staff that promotes and enhances student learningAddressing student needs with attention to age, developmental stages, and individual interestsInterviewing students regarding academic progress, social/emotional development, and short- and long-range educational planningAssisting with annual registration, course selection, scheduling, and career/college planning in collaboration with the Principal and RegistrarConducting group counseling sessions and facilitating peer mediation and conflict resolution trainingProviding crisis intervention services and communicating crisis-related information to administratorsMeeting with parents individually and in groups; leading and assisting with grade-level parent meetings and orientationsConsulting and collaborating with teachers, administrators, outside agencies and families to support student successReferring students to outside agencies and coordinating follow-up as appropriateInforming and guiding students on critical adolescent issues individually, in groups and in classroomsMaintaining accurate documentation and student recordsParticipating in school events and contributing to the positive culture of the school communityThe successful candidate will be a collaborative team member who prioritizes relationships, student advocacy, and equitable access to opportunities for all learners.Fort Plain Central School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
