POSITION: School Transportation Safety Program Coordinator LOCATION: East Ramapo Central School District START DATE: TBDJOB DESCRIPTION:The East Ramapo Central School District is seeking a School Transportation Safety Program Coordinator to develop and implement transportation safety programs, improve driver training, and enhance public awareness regarding school bus safety. This role involves working with school administrators, drivers, students, and the public to promote safe and effective school transportation practices. The position is under the direct supervision of the Director of Transportation and performs related duties as required. This is a civil service position.RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and coordinate transportation safety programs and training for public and non-public schools.Conduct meetings with school administrators, students, transportation personnel, and community groups to communicate district policies and bus safety programs.Work collaboratively with administrators, drivers, and attendants to improve school bus safety practices.Conduct driver training, including state-mandated road tests for new and existing district drivers.Maintain records and files to ensure compliance with State Education Department, Department of Motor Vehicles, Department of Transportation, and Board of Education requirements.Assist the Director of Transportation in establishing bus routes and bus stops.Investigate and address parental inquiries and concerns regarding school bus safety.Operate a school bus when directed by the Director of Transportation.QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Requirements:High school diploma or equivalency diploma.Four (4) years of paid work experience in pupil transportation (e.g., bus driver, dispatcher) with involvement in bus safety.Current, valid certification as an Examiner as determined by the Department of Motor Vehicles.Required Skills and Abilities:Strong knowledge of school transportation safety practices and regulations.Familiarity with relevant regulations from the State Education Department, Department of Motor Vehicles, and Department of Transportation.Ability to research and develop transportation safety programs.Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively work with school personnel, students, and community members.Organizational skills to maintain accurate program files and records.Ability to present information clearly and concisely.Ability to plan and direct safety-related programs.SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:Possession of a valid driver’s license appropriate for the vehicle to be driven.
