The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is looking for Special Education Teachers to join our team! We are accepting applications from NYS Certified Special Education teachers to fill several vacancies within our Special Education Department. Candidates must be NYS Certified in Special Education, or eligible for certification shortly. The BOCES hosts classes for students with disabilities both at our BOCES Main Campus in Auburn, as well as within several of our component districts. Given the breadth of programs we offer, candidates should review our programs and indicate in the application their preference of programs for which they would like to be considered. 12:1:1 Programs (Grades K-12+ ) Students in these classes benefit from specially designed instruction in order to successfully access the NYS learning standards as students are functioning below grade level All students will participate in a combination of special and general education classes per their IEP Desired Outcome: Regents / Local Diploma, CDOS Commencement Credential or Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential (SACC) if a student is NYSAA eligible 12:1:1 Community Experience Programs (Grades 12+) These programs are for students 18-21 who have completed 13 years of school, including all 4 years of high school, and have 2-3 years of eligibility remaining. Students must be able to manage their own behavior, maintain personal safety and demonstrate a commitment to developing independence and age appropriate skills. Employment experience and community based instruction are the focus of this program 12:1:3:1 Programs (Grades 5-12+) Students in these rooms have moderate to severe multiple disabilities (e.g. communication deficits, limited mobility, health and safety needs, may require habilitation and treatment) All students in this program are NYSAA eligible Self-help, daily living, functional skills and community experiences are a focus of this program All students will participate in special education classes and general education classes per their IEP Desired Outcome: Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential (SACC) 8:1:1 Programs (K-12+) Students in this program have social emotional deficits Students should be able to meet grade level academic expectations with appropriate supports Students require behavior management and supports Academically-oriented with a focus on behavior management All students will participate in a combination of special and general education classes per their IEP Desired Outcome: Regents / Local Diploma, CDOS Commencement Credential 6:1:2 Autism Program (K-12+) Student are diagnosed with Autism or related disorder(s) The program utilizes the TEACCH model that provides a clearly organized structure and modified environment with an emphasis on visual learning modalities Students require intensive interventions and supports to manage their behavior The curriculum is modified for each individual student This program assists students with communication skills, self-regulation skills, self-help skills, daily living skills and other individualized learning targets Desired Outcomes: Regents / Local Diploma, CDOS Commencement Credential or Skills and Achievement Commencement Credential (SACC) if a student is NYSAA eligible Alternative 8:1:1 Programs (7-12+) Students in this program have behavioral challenges and social emotional deficits Students require intensive behavior management and supports in a smaller group setting Students should be able to meet grade level academic expectations with appropriate supports Self-regulation skills and counseling needs are supported by a social worker All students will participate in special class for all content areas Desired Outcome: Regents / Local Diploma, CDOS Commencement Credential 8:1:1 Therapeutic Program (Grades K-12+) Students in this program have been identified as Emotionally Disturbed (ED) and/or Other Health Impaired (OHI) Students have a mental health diagnosis and previous outpatient services have not been effective Students require therapeutic strategies to manage their behavior Students and families must participate in psychiatric and counseling services Medication management is received through East Hill Medical Group. This program assists students in stabilizing their mental health and building self-regulation strategies Students should be able to meet grade level academic expectations with appropriate supports All students will participate in special class for all content areas Desired Outcomes: Regents / Local Diploma, CDOS Commencement Credential 6:1:2 Social Emotional Learning (SEL) (Grades K-8) The focus is for students to develop the self-awareness, self-control and interpersonal skills necessary to be successful in the school setting Students require intensive interventions and supports to self-regulate and manage their behavior Students have the cognitive ability to meet grade level expectations with appropriate supports In this position, you'll be a part of a great team that believes in our BOCES purpose of UNLEASHING POTENTIAL IN OUR COMMUNITY.
