The district, located just 25 miles east of New York City in Wantagh, NY, includes three elementary schools (K-5), one New York State Essential Elements School to Watch middle school (6-8), and one National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence high school (9-12).Position DetailsThe Wantagh UFSD is seeking a dynamic and skilled Reading Specialist to provide targeted literacy support to students from December-March with the opportunity to serve as a permanent substitute for the remainder of the year. This role involves working closely with classroom teachers and the Academic Intervention Support team to identify student needs and implement evidence-based interventions for struggling readers. You will be teaching some small-group lessons as well as pushing in to classes to provide support, mostly in the primary grades. The successful candidate will:Conduct reading assessments to determine student strengths and weaknesses.Develop and implement individualized or small-group reading intervention plans.Provide direct reading instruction using research-based methodologies.Collaborate with classroom teachers to support school-wide literacy instruction.Participate in professional development and curriculum planningRequirementsNYS Reading CertificationWilson Certification a plusNYS K-12 fingerprint clearance
