This position involves responsibility for coordinating the training and instruction of BOCES administrators, teachers’ and instructional staff in areas of basic computer and telecommunications technology skills, hardware and software selection and implementation, creation of multi-media projects, and the use of distance learning and on-line resources. The incumbent provides technical assistance regarding planning and implementing this technology into lesson plans in alignment with the New York State Learning Standards. The incumbent coordinates on a BOCES-wide basis technology planning as well as coordinating, analyzing, and resolving technology usage problems. Work is performed under the general direction of the Assistant Superintendent for Instructional and School Support Services with wide leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgement in planning and carrying out the details of the job. Supervision is exercised over subordinate support staff. Does related work as required.Typical Work Activities:Oversees and implements BOCES instructional technology plan, including development and modification consistent with state regulations and program’s needs;Chairs the BOCES instructional technology committee;Assists vocational, adult, alternative, and special education and itinerant teachers and administrators in integrating computer technology and telecommunications into curriculum, assessment, and instruction;Reviews technology orders to ensure compatibility with technology plan and instructional needs;Develops and maintains hardware and software inventories; Enhances Distance Learning and other technology use between campuses and within BOCES;Assists in the development of budget and financial strategies to support internal technology efforts;Ensures effective and efficient technology connections and relationships between instructional, administrative, and school support services divisions, including the Coordinator for Learning Technology, assistive technology staff, and instructors;Oversees existing and recommends new infrastructure and/or equipment and software for instructional use;Evaluates the effectiveness of internal instructional technology applications relative to improved student performance;Serves as the internal BOCES liaison to the Model School program; Develops short and long-range computer and telecommunications staff development programs for teachers, including providing or arranging for training;Develops a technology information newsletter;Develops proposals for educational technology grants.Qualifications:Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with one degree in computer science, information technology, or computer information services and another degree in education, and two (2) years of experience utilizing technology in a school district ORAt least ten(10) years of direct business experience in providing educational computer training to schools.
