Function:The School Social Worker counsels students and consults with parents, teachers, and other school personnel concerning students who are experiencing adjustment problems and/or behavioral difficulties in school. This person must be aware of community resources that are available for students and administrators (including CSE Chairpersons).Responsibilities:Consult with teachers and other school personnel regarding students;Consult with appropriate persons to assist students in improving conditions which affect behavior, social adjustment and performance in school;Provide direct counseling services to students and parents as needed, to include home visits whenever this is appropriate;Explore student’s home and neighborhood environment as individual circumstances necessitate;Serve as liaison with community service agencies as determined by the school assigned;Prepare parents and/or students for referrals to outside agencies;Complete all reports that are required for proper intervention;Attend CSE meetings when requested;Seek support (advice) from other behavioral specialists (psychologist, psychiatrist) with difficult cases (lack of progression, etc);And other such duties as assigned.Qualifications:NYS School Social Worker CertificationNYS LMSW, LCSW or LCSW-R LicensePreferred: Experience with children with special needs, including ASD, group and individual counseling, FBA/BIP, work with educational teams, including related service providers.
