The West Islip Union Free School District is seeking highly qualified and dedicated professionals to join our instructional team as an Elementary STEM Lab Teaching Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year. We are looking for an individual passionate about hands-on learning, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics who is eager to foster curiosity and critical thinking. Collaborating closely with classroom teachers and department leaders, this individual will play an integral role in supporting teacher-designed instruction, guiding students through interactive experiments and group projects, and promoting safety and discovery in line with our mission, “Every Student, Every Day!” Certification/Qualification: Teaching Certification or Teaching Assistant Certification STEM Teaching Assistant Responsibilities: Assist classroom teachers and department leaders in reinforcing STEM instructional concepts. Provide instructional support to small groups or individual students, assisting with enrichment and intervention activities planned by the teacher. Support teacher-designed classroom instruction and assist with setting up equipment, tools, and materials. Supervise and assist students during hands-on experiments, group projects, and lab activities under the direction of the certified teacher. Guide students, answer questions, and reinforce safety procedures for handling materials and lab equipment. Assist teachers in fostering student collaboration, active exploration, and group problem-solving. Maintain classroom organization and assist with managing lab inventory, tools, and instructional materials.
