The West Islip UFSD has an anticipated opening for a Science Teacher. The ideal candidate should possess a practical understanding of: New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS) at the middle school level Developmentally appropriate, inquiry-based science instruction Laboratory instruction and safety procedures General lab safety practices Proper use of scientific tools and equipment Chemical storage and safety protocols Scientific Method and CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) instructional practices Integration of literacy and mathematics within science instruction Use of technology to enhance instruction (Google Classroom, data collection tools, simulations, etc.) Differentiated instruction to support diverse learners Collaboration within a grade-level and vertical science team Preferred content knowledge includes: Physical Science concepts appropriate to all grades Biology Earth & Space Science CERTIFICATION: New York State Certification in Science (Biology, Earth Science and/or Chemistry)
