The West Islip UFSD is seeking student-centered educators who are dedicated to professional growth and committed to the success of all students.Certification/Qualifications: NYS Spanish 7-12 Required (Dual Certification with Italian Preferred) Deep knowledge of and experience implementing the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards and the NYS Learning Standards for World Languages. Experience with a literacy-based, comprehensible input approach to language acquisition, including the use of authentic materials and a focus on developing all four language skills Proficient in using Google Classroom and other Google for Education tools for classroom management and collaboration. Experience with video-based platforms like Flip (formerly FlipGrid) and interactive video tools like Edpuzzle. Familiarity with other educational technology is a plus (e.g., Duolingo for Schools, Kahoot!) Additional Requirements:Cultural Competency with the ability to integrate the diverse cultures of the Spanish-speaking worldExperience in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of a wide range of learnersWillingness to participate in extracurricular activities, such as advising a club and/or coachingStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to collaborate effectively with all stakeholdersFamiliar with three modes of communication for lessons/assessments: interpretive, interpersonal andpresentational; and be able to articulate how they are utilized in the classroomKnowledge of proficiency-based assessment strategies and the ability to use data to inform instruction.Love for language learningSelf-motivatedEffective classroom management practicesCandidates should submit a cover letter and resume through OLAS to the attention of James Cameron, Assistant Superintendent for HR.
