West Islip School District has an opening for a leave replacement social worker starting February 26, 2024 (anticipated). The ideal candidate will be a student-focused social worker with experience working in a collaborative, social-emotional conscious building. Experience working with elementary students, providing IEP mandated counseling, and building character education programs is highly desirable. New York State School Social Worker Certification required.Additional expectations include:- Collaborate with building team using a data-based problem solving process to identify and intervene with students in need of mental health or social emotional supports.- Knowledgeable and able to support implementation of interventions in the classroom and/or school- wide.- Demonstrate clear and professional communication about student issues with stakeholders.- Provide group and individual counseling services.- Provide classroom lessons on social-emotional learning or mental health topics.- Conduct crisis/risk-assessments.- Conduct home visits.- Provide support or case management for students with at-risk or chronic attendance issues.- Coordinate with community resources to provide assistance to students/families.- Provide professional development and resources to staff on relevant topics (suicide awareness/prevention, substance abuse, child abuse, gender identity topics, bully prevention, etc.) as needed.
