ANTICIPATED PROBATIONARY SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST (ELEMENTARY) The West Islip Union Free School District is seeking a highly skilled, empathetic, and collaborative School Psychologist for a probationary position. In this role, you will be a vital resource for our community, supporting the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of our public school students. We are looking for a clinician who excels at building positive relationships with families and staff, navigating the evaluation process with precision, and providing proactive, compassionate care. Required Qualifications & Certifications ? Certification: Valid New York State Education Department (NYSED) School Psychologist Certification ? Start Date: September 1, 2026 Our next School Psychologist will inspire student success by: ? Fostering Positive Relationships: High emotional intelligence with a proven ability to establish and maintain strong interpersonal connections with students, parents, and building staff. ? Driving Clinical Excellence: Managing a caseload of mandated counseling services and recommending evidence-based mental health supports and interventions. ? Navigating Special Education Law: Demonstrating deep knowledge of NYS Part 200 and Part 201 regulations, as well as federal and state laws related to Special Education and Students with Disabilities. ? Leading with a Solutions-Mindset: Executing crisis management protocols calmly and effectively, and conducting Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to develop impactful Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). ? Collaborating for Holistic Success: Partnering seamlessly with district stakeholders, coordinating and chairing Committee on Special Education (CSE) Meetings, and managing IEP and 504 Plan development. Key Areas of Expertise ? Assessment & Evaluation: Proven ability to administer and interpret standardized test batteries, keeping an organized caseload and a strict cycle of evaluations and annual reviews. ? Exceptional Communication: Excellent writing skills with regard to psychological evaluations, classroom observations, and re-evaluations. ? Public School Advocacy: Experience successfully collaborating with general education teachers, special education faculty, and administrators to support student success in a public school setting.
