Cottle Elementary School Start Date: September 1, 2026 Position Type: Full-Time, 10-Month Position Compensation: Per the TTA Contract Job Summary Tuckahoe Union Free School District is seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and highly skilled Special Education Teacher to serve students in a 12:1:2 special class setting at William E. Cottle Elementary School. The successful candidate will provide individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning, communication, behavioral, and social-emotional needs within a structured and supportive classroom environment. This position requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to support students’ academic achievement, independence, and social-emotional growth while fostering an inclusive, affirming, and student-centered learning environment. Job Description The Special Education Teacher – 12:1:2 Special Class works collaboratively with related service providers, support staff, families, and administrators to implement individualized educational programming aligned with students’ IEPs. The teacher will utilize evidence-based instructional strategies, differentiated instruction, and positive behavioral supports to maximize student growth and participation in the school community. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong instructional practices, classroom management skills, and the ability to create a structured, nurturing, and engaging learning environment that supports the unique needs of elementary-aged students with disabilities. Job Responsibilities Plan, prepare, and deliver differentiated instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Implement evidence-based instructional practices to support academic, behavioral, communication, and social-emotional development Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and utilize data to guide instructional planning and interventions Support students’ development in literacy, mathematics, communication, functional skills, and social interaction Develop and implement behavioral supports and classroom management systems that promote student success Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, social workers, and related service providers Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding student progress and goals Utilize instructional technology, visual supports, and adaptive materials to enhance learning Supervise and support teaching assistants and teacher aides within the classroom setting Foster a classroom environment that is safe, structured, predictable, inclusive, and supportive Support students’ social-emotional learning (SEL), self-regulation, and independence Maintain accurate documentation related to IEPs, progress monitoring, assessments, and compliance requirements Participate in team meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives Contribute positively to the school community and collaborative educational environment Qualifications Required Qualifications Valid New York State Special Education Teaching Certification in one of the following: Students with Disabilities (Birth–Grade 2 or All Grades) Special Education K–12 Special Education Permanent Certification Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field Experience developing and implementing IEPs, including goal writing, accommodations, and progress monitoring Strong classroom management and behavior support skills Knowledge of differentiated instruction and evidence-based practices for students with disabilities Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Commitment to inclusive and student-centered educational practices Preferred Qualifications Experience working with elementary-aged students with disabilities in a special class setting Experience supporting students with autism spectrum disorders, communication challenges, or behavioral needs Knowledge of positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) Experience with visual schedules, and other behavioral and communication supports Strong understanding of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) practices Knowledge of New York State Learning Standards and Culturally Responsive–Sustaining Education Frameworks Experience using instructional technology and assistive technology to support student learning Strong data analysis skills to inform instruction and improve student outcomes Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Tuckahoe Union Free School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, citizenship status, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, military status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
