Approved by Lynnette Brunger, Superintendent of Schools Elementary Special Education Teacher The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher provides specially designed instruction and support to young students with disabilities in order to promote their academic, social, behavioral, and developmental growth. Working collaboratively with general education teachers, related service providers, and families, the teacher develops and implements Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with each child’s unique needs. This role includes delivering developmentally appropriate instruction, monitoring student progress, and supporting students in accessing learning opportunities within the least restrictive environment. The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher plays an important role in fostering foundational communication, social, and learning skills that support school readiness and long-term success. Qualifications: Valid state teaching certification in Special Education Grade Kindergarten teaching certification Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students with disabilities and their families Knowledge of best practices in special education instruction and assessment Experience with assistive technology and other specialized equipment Responsibilities: Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities Provide developmentally appropriate, specially designed instruction that supports early literacy, language development, social-emotional skills, and foundational learning for students in grades K–2. Collaborate with general education teachers, teaching assistants, and related service providers to support students within the least restrictive environment. Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support students’ academic, behavioral, and social development. Assist with evaluations, progress reports, and documentation required for annual reviews and reevaluations. Establish a structured, supportive classroom environment that promotes positive behavior, engagement, and independence. Provide direct instruction to students with disabilities in a range of subject areas Monitor and track student progress and make adjustments to instruction as needed Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and solicit input Participate in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans for students with disabilities Grades K-2 Job responsibilities are inclusive of all aspects of the special education continuum (co-taught, resource room, direct/indirect consultant) Attend IEP meetings and other meetings related to the education of students with disabilities Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and attendance Additional Benefits: Generous Paid Time Off On-going Professional Development and Career Opportunities Health Insurance options: medical, dental, and vision NYS Retirement Benefits
