The ideal candidate will have a strong background in FACS education, a commitment to empowering students with essential life skills, and the ability to create engaging and relevant learning experiences.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Sciences, Home Economics, or related field (Master's degree preferred).Valid NYS teaching license or certification in FACS education.Experience teaching FACS courses at the middle school and/or high school level.Knowledge of FACS curriculum frameworks, standards, and instructional strategies.Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skillsResponsibilities:Develop and teach a comprehensive FACS curriculum that includes topics such as nutrition, cooking, food safety, personal finance, child development, textiles, and life skills.Utilize hands-on, experiential learning methods, including laboratory activities, projects, demonstrations, and simulations, to engage students and reinforce practical skills.Incorporate technology tools and resources into FACS lessons to enhance student learning, research, and project-based activities.Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment where students feel comfortable exploring and discussing topics related to family, relationships, health, and consumer issues.Provide guidance and support to students in developing decision-making skills, goal-setting strategies, and responsible behaviors related to personal and family well-being.Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and community partners to integrate cross-curricular connections, promote career exploration in FACS-related fields, and organize relevant guest speakers or field trips.Assess student learning and progress through a variety of formative and summative assessments, performance tasks, portfolios, and authentic assessments aligned with FACS standards.Participate in professional development activities, FACS professional organizations, and ongoing curriculum development to stay current with best practices in FACS education.Maintain accurate records of student progress, behavior and attendanceStrong classroom management skillsCommunicate regularly with parents and guardiansAdditional Benefits:Generous Paid Time OffOn-going Professional Development and Career OpportunitiesHealth Insurance options: medical, dental, and visionNYS Retirement Benefits
