NON-INSTRUCTIONAL POSITION AVAILABLE GROUNDSKEEPER I FACILITIES DEPARTMENT EFFECTIVE: OCTOBER 2026 The Groundskeeper performs skilled work in the maintenance of municipal school grounds. This position requires knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions related to ground maintenance. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Head Groundskeeper or other designated supervisor and is reviewed during progress and upon completion to ensure desired results are achieved. HOURS : Day Shift - Tuesday - Saturday DUTIES : Seed, mow, and maintain lawns Plant, prune, and maintain trees and shrubbery Rake leaves and perform general grounds cleanup Propagate, cut, plant, transplant, mulch, and cultivate flowers, plants, and shrubs Apply fertilizers and herbicides in accordance with safety standards Operate and maintain grounds-related machinery and equipment Perform basic mechanical tasks, including small engine repair and equipment upkeep Remove snow and ice from driveways, parking lots, and pedestrian walkways Follow all safety procedures and operational guidelines MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to follow written and oral instructions Mechanical aptitude, including experience with small engine repair and grounds equipment Minimum of three (3) years of experience in grounds maintenance preferred Possession of a valid NYS Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (Category 3A) Possess and maintain a valid, clean New York State Driver’s License Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
