POSITION: Teacher Assistant Hours: M-F, 8:15am – 3:00pm; (10-month position) 8:15am - 4:00pm (4) times per year PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist the teacher in the classroom. 1.1 Work with the small groups or individual students as directed by the teacher using specified materials. 1.2 Assist in the physical care of the students and/or classroom asneeded by situation and department. (including feeding, dressing, toileting, ambulation as needed) 1.3 Prepare instructional materials as directed. 1.4 Perform clerical duties necessary for efficient functioning of the class; for example,Obtain suppliesComputer and/or library for research.Obtain media equipment, cameras, tapes, etc.Correct papersType classroom materials and use computer/library for research.Write/type classroom materials. 1.5 Help to maintain orderly procedure during fire drills. Assist outside the classroom 2.1 Accompany students and assist in all out of class activities. 2.2 Participate on class trips as directed. 2.3 May accompany children home in emergency or crises situations. Assume supportive duty assignments as assigned. 3.1 Substitute as needed for on-site teacher meetings, staff development, etc. as directed by supervisor and/or principal. 3.2 Supervise breakfast/lunch/recess programs as required in the department. 3.3 Accompany/assist students to swimming program as directed. RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES:Interact effectively (speech/sign) with students throughout the school day.Foster an atmosphere conducive to learning. Assist teacher by observing student behavior and keeping behavior logs/charts.Form a resource pool as needed to cross department lines.Maintain confidentiality PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Certification Teacher AideLevel IHigh School DiplomaTemporary teaching license (Valid for one year) Teacher AssistantLevel IIHigh School Diploma6 semester hours1 year experience under a Temporary or Continuing License, or Level I certificateLevel IIIHigh School Diploma18 semester hours1 year experience under a Temporary or Continuing License, or Level I certificate, or Level II certificate 2. Communication SkillsAbility to use Total Communication, and code switch dependent on individual student needs.
