POSITION: Supervising Teacher/Educational Supervisor (10-Month Position) Hours: 8:30 am – 3:15 pm Thursdays 4:00 pm PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:To work in a collaborative manner with the Executive Director, Principal and co-supervisors to maintain an overall level of efficient management by supervising the following areas. Areas of responsibility specific to a department are followed by ME for Middle Elementary, P for Primary Elementary, and /or PP for Pre-Primary. I. EDUCATION AREA Student observation to insure implementation of IEP mandates, including academic and support services.Evaluate student progress and initiate referrals for support services asneeded.Maintain and review records and evaluations for each student. (attendance, IEPs, report cards, student files).Assist with student disciplinary problems by offering recommendations to the Child Study Team that will assist the child in achieving academic success.Attend annual District CPSE and CSE meetings as needed.Assess and meet curriculum needs for department.Make parent contacts to discuss/inform of educational concerns.Coordinate department special events such as student incentive/rewards programs and graduation.Prepare/oversee classroom teacher and student schedules to assure state mandates are met. II PERSONNEL AREAObserve staff with special emphasis on new staff.Evaluate staff according to policy schedule.Provide for regular staff meetings.Implement staff development programs.Interview candidates for department staff positions.Conference with individual staff as needed. Mediate interpersonal relationships between staff members or between staff and students as needed.Prepare/oversee staff schedules and assist with coverage.Supervise special activity teachers.Act as liaison between mental health staff, medical professionals, and teachers.Read/review monthly unit plans and plan books.Train staff on test administration, report card writing, IEP writing, unit plan writing as needed. III MANAGEMENT AREA:Participate in scheduled Management and Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings.Prepare annual department reports and budgets. IV OUTREACH –School Supervisor Attend monthly meetings of the Children’s Committee of the MR Council.Provide in-service experiences for early intervention service coordinators from various agencies and for the Bronx EIODS (Early Intervention Official Designers).Serve as the location for one meeting each year of the Service Coordinator Networking Committee.V OTHER AREAS: Cafeteria/bus supervisionTelephone and written correspondenceApprove all paper requests for the department: maintenance, lamination, color copies, petty cash, purchase ordersInform staff of events, meetings, and student information through 1:1 conference, phone, e-mail, and/or monthly department calendars.Attend professional development conferences ouside of the field of Deaf education such as those sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association. VI PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS 1 New York State certification in Deaf Education; five year’s experience with Deaf student preferred.2 New York State certification in Administration Knowledge of Common Core State Standards, Individualized Educational Planning, state mandates,4 NYS Core Body of Knowledge, and Curriculum Development SCPI or ASLPI rating score proficient or above.REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:Executive Director
